Siemens Healthcare: Software Product Line for 3D Routine and Advanced Reading (syngo.via)

The Siemens Healthcare Sector is one of the world’s largest suppliers to the healthcare industry and a trendsetter in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics, medical information technology and hearing aids. Siemens products and solutions are dedicated to raising quality and productivity in healthcare. Among these products are imaging modalities, such as CT, MRI, PET and mammography. The syngo.via* software product line is designed to provide optimized visualization and reading solutions to healthcare professionals to create diagnostic information for the different imaging modalities and different examined body regions. syngo.via at the time of this writing offers more than 70 diagnostic applications – all of them developed using the syngo platform applying product line engineering paradigms. Depending on the customer environment, different configurations of syngo.via can be used.

The product offers a common user interface for all applications reducing the training and learning efforts of its users. Further commonalities are integration capabilities, workflow control, serviceability, and data browsing and storing capabilities. Main focus of variability is on creation of different advanced diagnostic applications and the various underlying image data types created by different modalities. The diagnostic applications use different imaging algorithms for analysis, offer specific tools for body regions and dedicated analysis interactions, create application or lesion specific measurements while sharing common image manipulation concepts such as zooming, windowing, and panning.

The first product release of syngo.via was in 2009, since then the set of applications and capabilities of syngo.via is continuously extended and enhanced. New versions of the software are planned to be released once a year.
